The American Crisis
Thomas Paine, in this article, talks about the hardship of men through their struggles. Something I think was very noble of him to talk about was the equality of men. In the past aticles I have read in The American Reader, many men have put down minoritys and people who are "different" from themselves. Thomas Paine sayd on page 52, "It matters not where you live, or what rank of life you hold, the evil blessing will reach you all. The far and the near, the home counties and the back, the rich and the poor, will suffer or rejoice alike." a quote that goes along with this one is on page 53, "If we reason to the root of things we shall find no difference." You can see his open mind within his text and I have to agree. His text was very Enlightening.
